Small businesses are falling by the way side. Even the best small businesses in NYC are struggling to keep up with e-commerce. Recently I happened upon a place with unique and beautiful merchandise; dresses and blazers, skirts and sumptuous knits. The sales team is remarkable, they know their hand-picked inventory and excel at personal service. You should know about this wonderful shopping resource!
Ekavi just celebrated their 45th anniversary in the same location, a quick walk from my home. You know I love to shop small and local! Such a feat does not happen by accident, and certainly not under these tough retail conditions.
I so enjoyed being at the celebration !
Such a silly shot below, but it does give an accurate vibe of the warmth of this lovely shop. The best small businesses in NYC are also the most fun places to shop!
The shop is known for high quality and personalized expert service. Their credo:
1. Quality
We never stop seeking innovation, but value pure materials above all else. Our collections are produced by small companies who focus on sustainable practices.
2. Fit
Our clothes come from European and American designers, all of whom have an impeccable standard for fit. We work with each customer to find the perfect cut and size.
3. Fashion-forwardness
Each season, we hand-pick pieces that are both fashionable and wearable. We believe that clothing should be enjoyed, and should enhance your personality.
Sporting one of their necklaces, which is now sold out, I share the image below. . This statement necklace is made By Sylca and sold for $98.00. It is dramatic and artisanal. The lux basket tote is perfect for a winter retreat to warmer climes. It is by Brazilian Designer Serpui and sells for $225.00. It is the perfect size for beach towels and seems very sturdy. It will last for decades, unlike cheaper wicker totes.
You can shop Ekavi near the UN in Manhattan at 886 Second Avenue, or on Shoptiques.
Time to share some favs!
1– Water proof raincoat
2-Classic Herringbone Overcoat
3 – Abstract Print dress
4- Metallic Floral Tunic
I also met new friends. Meet Susan, a very successful and conscientious real estate broker!
Not stopping there! I also met Bex, My generous and beautiful friend who also happens to Mrs. Greater New York. Bex uses her beauty pageant platform to do good work. Since I have met less than one month ago, she has done 3 events! ( One for sex trafficking, one for breast cancer, and one for children with Down Syndrome.)
Talk about beauty inside and out! Bex walks the walk !

Thank you Vale, it was lovely and the merchandise is top notch. Fabulously nice people too!

Yes it is so important to support small businesses. We don’t want Amazon, Google and Apple to run everything. This shop looks great, nothing like a well curated shop and even better when it is close by. Great necklace and love the bag and jeans too.

Elle-Have just started following your recent posts—as a pick-me-up —after a long, unintentional break. There has been a marvelous evolution since your first entries a few years ago. For starters: you grow ever more beautiful each season!
The blog seems now to belong to the worlds of art and philosophy as well as to that of fashion. The philanthropic emphasis still rings true.
I also like the more concise, to the point, bent of each uplifting post.
Happy to be up to date with The Elle Diaries.

Vanessa,
It is a great place to live , so true!

I love this kind of shop and if I lived nearby would certainly pop in there. Wonderful pic of the ladies and I thought your necklace might be Sylca! I collaborated with them before and loved the mother daughter team making the beautiful jewelry. I have been doing more secondhand shopping this year, on real real and poshmark and it is fun to find treasures!
Have a great week!

Elle, it is wonderful you introduce such shops here on your blog! I really wished we had such shops in the country of Bavaria where I live … Your perfect necklace is the best proof that they offer amazing items and you look fantastic as usual in your denim look xx from Bavaria/Germany, Rena
