Trending hashtags and birthday parties? How do they relate ? Read on dear followers!
I am turning 60 next week, as is my twin ! This is a big birthday and a symbolic one as well, in terms of aging. I approach age in nuanced way, and want to address some trending hashtags that irk me, when it comes to getting older. But first, some photos from my twin’s party, as this is a style blog after all ! Below, my twin wearing a gorgeous appliquéd jacket!
My twin loves designer bags as much as I do, but buys them second-hand mostly. She looks like me, no? Yes! My sister’s friend thought of every detail and the party was such a tribute to my incredible sister ! Below the tablescape! A container of chocolate kisses were proffered at each place setting , my twin’s favorite, as a little parting gift for friends.
Delicious food was served and numerous toasts lavished praise for my sister’s luminescent personality and generous heart !
A brief interlude to discuss why I dislike some trending hashtags. A pet peeve is this one : Age is just a number! I agree with the overall vibe of this, in that we should not be defined by our age. However, I feel that age IS A NUMBER and one that represents hard-earned and gratifying milestones. We should not diminish the numbers!
I am thrilled to be sixty. (next week) I am so pleased with my wonderful adult’s children’s achievements and character traits! I look so forward to an upcoming wedding. As well, I am grateful everyday for my strong and vital marriage of 34 years. Please do not take away my number, it has meaning and should not be cast in a negative light.
Above my leggings are a fun way to reinforce my message. I love to walk around in the city, but not in heels !
I dressed in a festive way and this should surprise none of my followers! I meant to do a top knot, but time that day was scarce and this had me defaulting to a Malibu Barbie look, which should probably not be a style default for someone my age! But I dislike dictums and love to dress up! See the pink coat and glasses as to why I playfully refer to this term.
Standing next to me is my younger sister, who celebrates her 59th birthday just two days before my twin and I celebrate 60! Yes, Irish triplets in a way. I had to crop her out as she was squinting and turning backwards! This photo did not do her justice. We just took a couple of snaps, as we had major festivities ahead!
Below, I am wearing my pearl trimmed skirt and a peach lace top that I bought locally and on sale. I have worn both pieces a lot recently My earrings are vintage and were bought locally at consignment !
Another hashtag I do not care for is 60 is the new forty. It is not! Sixty is still sixty! I do love the hashtag 50 is the new fifty, though! Lets welcome our age and years!
Fun with apps! See the shot below I created of my 58th birthday! I discussed empowered aging here. I don’t know photoshop but made this image with an app called Procreate, I think.
Below my twin at a recent lawn party, a wedding celebration, with her son and our nephew! It was hazy so the resolution is not optimal.
How I wish I had pictures of my sis, the bride, but am waiting still and will add them to my post ASAP. She is a beauty and a fabulous sister with so much raw energy and brilliance. Captured just weeks ago, this shot fits nicely as I share photos of joyous and recent events!
Hamptons floral! What I wore for my sister’s wedding! Note I did not wear the white satin dress! You have seen a lot of this maxi here and on Instagram ! Too bad the day was hazy.
As my birthday approaches you may wonder how I plan to celebrate. The answer: just a quiet party with my nuclear family at a local arcade and restaurant complex. I want to win myself a stuffed owl! I did not succeed last time, but did have fun in the arcade room. I can’t not wait to go back with my family!
Without boasting, I know I appear relatively youthful for my age. Being petite helps but mostly I credit good genes and very little sun exposure. Being playful is important too, as does living in the moment and not stressing over numbers!
Lets never loose our sense of wonder, even in these difficult times!
Are there any trending hashtags that you dislike ?
Are there any quotes or hashtags that you appreciate when it comes to the process of aging ? Please share!
I wish you a wonderful new week. Thanks for tuning in!

I would love to see a photo of you and your sisters together! Lovely story!
Yes I certainly wanted to find one. But unfortunately the lighting was not particularly good and there weren’t any pictures of both of us looking at our best.
❤️ Elle
Lovely pictures of your family, and happy happy birthday to you! You are so right that 60 is not the new 40, but it’s not our grandmothers’ 60 either. We have lots more interests and stay active. You’re looking especially gorgeous! xo

That is an excellent point. I think many of us are more fitness minded and that is a good thing. But I think we need to honor our chronological age.
❤️ Elle
That’s so interesting Elle because I never thought about these hashtags this way. I always thought of them in a good way—but I totally see your point!! Of course, part of the hasttag trend is what most people will be searching for, not how it affects them.
You are so blessed to have such a wonderful family.
A happiest of birthdays to you both!!
XOXO

A very happy birthday to you and your twin Elle! 🙂 I like the ‘age is just a number’ idea of not letting it definite you, but I agree it is good to celebrate where you are and where you’ve come from too!
I hope you have a wonderful party celebrating with your family 🙂
Hope that you are having a great weekend 🙂 We had a quiet one as we are all a little unwell from another round of winter bugs!

Happy early birthday Elle!
I hope you have an awesome day.
I agree about those hashtags. I’ve grown to learn I need to be proud of my age.

Thanks Suzanne,
Yes it is important we embrace our age and the milestones that come with it. Thank you so much for these wonderful wishes and I hope you are having a great start to this new week.

Beautiful: your twin sister (there are two of you gorgeous creatures! ), your outfits (all of them) and your attitude. As for hashtags? I just shrug my shoulders and dismiss them.
Did you mention your sister of 59 is the bride? Woohoo. Good on her.
Greetje
Yes there are two of us and that has been the source of confusion of the years. I am very lucky to have her as a twin and my younger sister also. You did read that correctly. This is not her first marriage but I think he’s a keeper.

Like Nancy, I would love to see a photo of the three of you together. Your twin does look remarkably like you, and as gorgeous and youthful as you as well. Can’t believe you’re turning — gulp — sixty! I think I understand your aversion to certain age related hashtags. I guess they’re meant to make you feel better about your age, but I do agree with you that numbers do count, to be celebrated and savoured with gratitude. You’re looking very girly in that divine pink coat, and the floral maxi you wore to your sister’s wedding is absolutely… Read more »
Ann, That is very sweet. It’s a silly prize but it will be fun to play in the arcade. Yes turning 60 is sort of a big deal but I am very happy to be this age. My floral maxi was thrifted for only $15!

I want to wish you a very happy birthday…and I hope you win that owl! You *are* VERY youthful looking…wish we could convince youngsters of the dangers/aging qualities of the sun!

Yes we certainly do try to tell our children about the sun. I really worried that they do not listen as well as they could. But then again, I worry about so many things these days. Thank you so much for your lovely comment.
❤️ Elle
I didn’t really listen, either. But that was in the 70s and 80s before we even KNEW how damaging the sun was!
Ah, I don’t follow those hashtags (or any of them, for that matter), but I agree with your sentiments, Elle!
Looking fabulous in all of your outfits – I love seeing pictures of your family (and I love your twin’s birthday cake!).
It was so smart of you not to be on Instagram. Although I do enjoy it it is very time-consuming and time is better spent with actual people I think. Yes I think my sisters cake was fabulous. I hope you’re very well my friend .
❤️ Elle
Your celebration looks AMAZING, been following on IG. And yeah i hear you about the number thing.

Thanks Allie,
So far so good, although I am actually not a huge fan of big parties! I hope you are well and surviving this ridiculous heat.

What?! You look incredible! I hope that I look nearly as beautiful as you when I turn 60. I’m not just saying this, both you and your twin are gorgeous! Which, by the way, I didn’t know you had! How have I been reading your blog for so long and didn’t know you had a twin?! It sounds like you’ve accomplished so much, enjoy every minute of taking it all in, it’s well deserved. Cheers to 60!

So sweet Jalisa!
I don’t write too many personal things about my blog. Well I do but I don’t normally include my family. Thanks so much for this very sweet post. You are a doll!
❤️ Elle
It looks like an amazing birthday bash. I hope you enjoyed it. Happy birthday to you and your twin. I only really think of hashtags as a positive to search for images.
Thanks so much, we are certainly enjoying the parties !
Yes, hashtags can be great for that !

Happy Birthday to you and your twin sister. I would never guess, you were turning 60, you look so much younger, but I agree with the approach that the age is just a number. You look stunning in these pictures, as always. Loved the maxi dress on you. Happy Thursday! xx

Good ponts Elle on the hashtags, we shouldn’t be ashamed of the number, it is well earned! As you mentioned the experiences and memories are not to be tossed aside! I so agree! and yes, 50 is the new 50! hehe. I don’t think of hashtags too much, I still havent figured out IG. Your sister is lovely and how wonderful you both share a bday! i enjoyed the photos and what a lovely table setting to celebrate. You look stunning in whatever you wear. I adore that pink jacket!
