A sequin dress may be an unusual thing to feature for an OOTD post in Early October. But 71 degree weather is also unusual! I found this perfect, short sleeve dress that fits better than any dress I have ever worn, and I love the shimmer. I could not wait to share it. Lets add some sparkle to this new week!
The overwhelming number of things that I buy are second-hand or from consignment. This dress is an exception, and I feel a bit guilty, but truly I have nothing like it. How I purchased it is somewhat amusing as well. I was at Diesel, and I like their hashtag, “not cool anymore”. The quality is commendable, and the designs are fresh. I was trying on this dress in the children’s dressing room, as this dress is a child’s size 12 ( so it fits in the shoulder and waist, hurrah) and I was having trouble with the zipper.
“Help! ” I asked the salesperson, a lovely young lady, “I need some assistance zipping this as my arthritis is acting up.” So this is not quite the phrase a sales person would hear from a person buying a dress for a pre-pubescent girl. The irony was hilarious and made both of us giggle. Maybe you had to be there!
Do you think this color blocked dress is fast fashion ? Maybe, but I don’t think so. It is both high fashioned and style statement , and the design is one I believe I will love for many holidays in the future. It is a perfect Christmas party dress, especially with the red shoes, now 3 years old and my new patent leather coat. I attend several Christmas parties per year, and this dress will be in heavy rotation from now on. The dress is well made with a cotton lining. This red coat was a new purchase as well, as I could not find one second-hand anywhere, and believe me I tried. I tend to buy what I love and keep things for decades.
See the sequin dress available here, in a close up view.
Grommets at the waist add the perfect “tough” vibe that hardware lends to party frocks. It is this dichotomy that appeals to me! My necklace is a thrift store find and is fun to wear as the fringe moves as I walk.
The simple black bag is about 8 years old, and bought at a tag sale for $3.00. It is a favorite with the white top-stitching and diminutive size.
The weather the last 8 days was quite warm! Temperatures on the day of this photo shoot topped off at a balmy 71! Not too shabby for November, even if it bodes poorly for the planet. Eek. The foliage was still lush, in strong autumnal hues. My outfit blends well with the saturated reds and greens!
During these dark days, I am latching onto color as a mood enhancer!
Red is currently singing to me in scarlet crescendos.
The fresh apples on the street also caught my eye.
These photos were taken with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8, an older model. I have a setting called live focus that automatically adds depth of field ! I love this feature!
My friend who took these shots is a former model, and she also loves this coat and has plans to barrow it. I love to share my clothing ! She is not dressed up at all, but this coat transformed her outfit!
Some days are meant for joyful embellishments! We must bring our brightest selves out into this world, as often as we can!
Passing along some red sequin dress ideas from second-hand sources. This from Ebay is $7.00 or less! This beautiful red sequin dress is adorned with black and is holiday perfect. An added bonus is that it is also wallet friendly and under $29.00!
So tell me dear readers, how is your color mood? Dark and cloudy or festive bright? I do hope it is the latter!

I saw this dress on your Instagram Elle, and fell in love with it. I adore that you even think to shop in the kids section. I always forget to do that…but then maybe I wouldn’t have to shorten everything??

Can’t believe this is a children’s size dress! It looks playful and grown up at the same time, and the perfect Christmas party dress too. I love the addition of the fabulous fringy necklace. I’m not surprised your friend would love to borrow your coat, it’s absolutely gorgeous. Love the Autumnal floral and foliage displays. These colours make my heart sing! xxx
Sequin outfits are a great outfit to wear for an event.
Love what you’re wearing.

Get that sparkle on! I love that you found this in the kid’s section, Elle – I also chortled at the contrast of a girl’s dress and oh, arthritis! We have to find the humour in those situations, don’t we? That is a stunning dress (everything is made better with grommets, ’tis a fact!), and I love the blood red accessories. What a FAB coat – I might have yanked that out of your hands.
Wishing you a week ahead filled with sunshine and colour, whether that is literal or metaphorical is up to you, my dear!
This dress is amazing, eye catching yet very classy and you look incredible, Elle. Love it! I also shop kids sizes at times. Kisses

I cannot believe that was a dress for teens. Things sure have changed since when I was a kid! We had very little selection and certainly nothing as fancy as this dress.
I think that being small enough to fit into kids clothing has its benefits.
Arthritis sucks. Sorry to hear yours is acting up. It’s a bit like Benjamin Button, you may look super young on the outside but your insides are still old : (

Wow, what an amazing dress! Kudos to you for wearing it.
Wow, love everything about this outfit! The bright color, the sequins and how you added your textured tights with those gorgeous red heels and coat. The waist gromments are a fun addition. I love textured, colorful looks for Fall and Winter, this is really my favorite styling season. Beautiful! Now, where is that party? :_)
Have a wonderful week!

Dear Elle,
I just love it when I read about other women shopping in the children’s department. @ Jodie (http://www.jtouchofstyle.com), you should really start doing so too! It has got quite some advantages. The clothes easily fit, the price tag is often more attractive and you will most probably not wear the same dress as your friends!
Love, Lieske
I have to agree is a festive dress.
Yes, NO denying it! lol.
