Hello loves. Gulp, December is here! The season is upon us and I am feeling bold and bright in my red velvet coat.
My red velvet coat looks like faux fur from a distance because it is actually crushed velvet. It is from an upscale children’s store, believe it or not. It is light and perfect for holiday cheer. I love red for anytime of year though.
Yes, you have seen this coat on Instagram and also on a recent Thanksgiving post. It is simple and classic, with a slightly rounded shoulder. It is by Rachel Riley London, and the site also has a ladies selection. I got it on sale three winters ago, for around $70.00. I also bought one in a peach bouclè. I paired it with simple skinny jeans by William Rast and buckled boots that are made to withstand a 20 block walk. The booties are pure comfort!
The classic Louis Vuitton bag is from my sister when she was downsizing her closets! Yes, to downsizing- LOL! The day was bright and warm for the season. These photos were shot the day I was preparing to leave for my Thanksgiving dinners. Plural- yes, a very big family.
Nothing I am wearing is expensive, by the way. You know my shopping habits by now. But everything is high quality and made to last. Manhattan offers so many ways to shop smart! Below, I am near the window of an Upper East Side restaurant. I love this neighborhood because it is quieter than trendier, downtown neighborhoods, and has fabulous shopping, beautiful architecture, and delicious restaurants.
Below, I love the way my red velvet coat catches the light, reading a bit raspberry-orange in the light.
Inside at Orsay restaurant , the color reads more blue-red. I do look a bit sad in one photo as Greetje pointed out, as this was a few days after our dog was put to sleep. Sometimes a camera catches up in our real mood, but I did manage many genuine smiles that day. Below, is not a very good shot, but you can see my polka dot sweater here, and my necklace that I got at a second-hand charity shop. I am okay with posting shots that aren’t my best sometimes. Life is real.
Below my red velvet coat and blonde pony shine with reflected light. ( okay did I push it a bit with this style? Malibu Barbie meets Manhattan matron, anyone? ) Below is a better shot. A happier shot. The light only catches my top knot, face and grazes my shoulder. The wood work is gorgeous though!
This week is feeling festive . A few shots of what I saw around me, that day, and a few days onward.
I was in a friend’s lobby recently, and there was a series of photos projecting on the wall, right next to a Christmas tree. Thee photos reflected the Christmas lights, and I thought the image was interesting and spirited. So I will close with that.
A few shopping options for a red velvet or faux fur coat. I do admire the combination of red and texture, Anthropologie coat here , Raquel Allegra here , and Frame Faux Fur here. Do you own or would you consider buying a red velvet coat, or a crimson faux fur? I will say I love mine!
Such a gorgeous outfit! Love this combination!

I do love the colour of that coat and can see why you were attracted to it.
It was beautiful here today too. The pug and I got out to enjoy the sunshine. Gotta soak it up while it lasts!

Oh that last photo at the end is beautiful! 🙂
I love your coat too, what a lovely piece! Makes me want to pat it just to see what it feels like, haha! Works so nicely with your outfit too 🙂
Hope you had a great weekend! We did a lot of Christmassy things like putting our tree up which was good. They predicted wild weather but thankfully it stayed away all weekend.

I also thought it was cool, sort of a double exposure look!
I am so glad your tree is up and you are getting in the holiday spirit!

Elle,
Your beautiful coat looks indeed like fake fur! I adore this piece and it is so cute that you can also wear pieces from the children department like it is possible for me 🙂 And it make me also smile that you got this amazing bag through the fact that your sister downsized her closet 🙂 Enjoy the first week in advent!

You definitely did not “push it a bit”. This is an excellent oufit. The trousers, the sweater, the necklace and the coat.. all very good items and perfect together.
Wouldn’t I just love to be at your sister’s door when she is downsizing haha.
Oops… you are there of course. Two would be a crowd haha.
Greetje
PS thanks for the shout-out
Yes, that door…her closets…
I am so glad you think I pulled off the hair, I was not sure, but since i have been wearing it often this way. so I am glad of this comment. Both the coat and the sweater from children’s stores!
I would never think a room crowded if you were with me. it would only feel fuller in a good way!
xoxo, Elle
