Heat Wave New York ! Who is feeling it? Am I the only one wilting in this heat?
I bet the answer is a resounding NO! Heat wave New York…
Heat wave California, Heat wave New Jersey, Heat wave Europe. I could go on and on. Record breaking temps spell trouble for so many. As I wander my neighborhood I see homeless people and can not imagine how they cope. I see elderly people too, and wonder about their welfare. Truly heart wrenching.
So I wear a sleeveless sundress , a wispy thing in indigo blue .
I add a sleeveless suede vest for when I am indoors. Booties give my look a more timely autumnal vibe.
Good morning Heat wave New York!
Indoors you will find me appreciating the air conditioning! I sip ginger tea to help fight the summer cold . None the less, I smile and enjoy! Earl grey tea and fresh ginger is pretty delicious !
A luxe setting, yes! But I am wearing an old dress that I paid $15.00 from a mom and pop shop. I added a suede vest, also, bought from a local mom and pop shop near me. Colorful and cool boots, ( prepare to see them often) are Dries Van Noten, my favorite designer, via Le Prix.com. I love this particular resource, as it combines a large group of small consignment shops in one venue. Therefore, shopping for fall booties in my very small size was a breeze. I purchased these for a song!
Standing up as I arrive, my suede vest is off! Too hot for this layer!
My belt is a cool, pun intended, corset piece by Dolce & Gabbana , via Encore. This fabulous piece is about 5 years old.
My earrings were thrifted from LVIS, and the proceeds go to charitable causes. I gravitate towards anything with an art deco vibe. Mixed metals add character to this pair of unique ear clips.
Mirrored white sunnies add a touch of modern whimsy, and my faux ostrich bag, purchased in Porto, adds texture and warmth.
Voilá, easy peasy dressing for a stifling hot day!
#NYFW starts today and while I don’t feel awful , I do not feel especially well. My autoimmune disease flare has calmed only to be replaced by a cold. An upper respiratory infection is no biggee for most, but for me, with my autoimmune disease and compromised immune status- it could spell trouble.
As well, I do not want to get others ill. The first day of a cold is when you are most contagious. So I am briefly visiting a friend and looking longingly at my Fashion Week schedule. Oh well, things could be so much worse!
I sit and ponder. Life is complicated and lately there is so much negative energy . I pay homage to the very real chaos without letting it get me down for too long. I hope I can bring some light into this void.
Increasingly, I feel less patient with things like manicures, and hair styling. Time is better spent elsewhere. I twist my hair into a knot when it is almost dry and sleep on it, and wait for waves to greet me in the morning mirror.
I love headbands and pony tails . My braided headed band is one you have seen often and most recently here . Headbands add a nice bit of polish and only take a few seconds to add. Arched against a favorite porcelain vase, this pearl one is a favorite too.
Certainly it is challenging styling with heat wave New York coming on, full steam. Yes, pun intended. It is due to break soon, and I do hope so.
A bit of cooler air will lift everyone’s mood.
Seasonally appropriate weather helps one think the word is as it should be. Whether it is or not is open to debate. Lets dwell on goodness, health and the beauty that is everywhere, if only we have eyes to see them.
ENJOY THE WEEKEND DEAR READERS!
——XOXO, Elle ——
Your look is breezy and cool…I hope it feels that way as well. Though today we have a nice respite from the heat after last night’s terrific storm. It’s wonderful how many lovely designer pieces you find while thrifting.
Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well – take care of yourself.

Thanks so much Bettye!
Any respite is wonderful!
Today was actually lovely, still I worry about the coming hurricane for our southern neighbors!

My sister in South Carolina is battening down the hatches and still on the fence whether they will stay or go. I think they need to decide soon! Hopefully everyone, and all the creatures, will be okay.
Good luck to your sister! I hope she is okay .. I would go if I were she.. yes I hope the people, and the creatures are safe!

What a cool look, in both sense of the word! Yes, this week was miserably hot and humid in New York. Fortunately the weather broke today and the temp’s gone down.
Thanks so much. The weather is strange indeed, but I fear for the part the part of country that is bracing for the storm! Happy week my friend!

I love dresses for heatwaves, a nice and cool outfit option! Sorry to hear you are unwell though – I hope you are able to rest and enjoy some of fashion week when you are better!
I hope that you are having a lovely weekend 🙂 Has been a quiet one here so far with the rain – as you’re waiting for it to cool off we are hoping for it to warm up, haha!
Away From The Blue Blog
Oh I do hope it warms up for you and your family!
I did go for a bit!

Those booties were quite the score.
Our heat wave finally broke here today and it is a huge relief although I’m not in a hurry to welcome Fall, just some more normal temperatures.
I agree, it is difficult to stay positive with everything that is happening in the world right now.
I hope you start to feel better soon. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Thanks Suzanne,
I think temperamentally we are very similar.
The headlines and the directions of things..so worrisome! So we focus on beauty and creativie endeavors!
I am getting better, thanks for the healing vibes!

You are looking so beautiful in this heat wave my friend!

Nice pictures, lovely stuff. I have an ostrich print bag as well. Will be on the blog next week. Yours is a warmer colour, mine is neutral (sand coloured).
The boots are superb. I love Dries as well. But I can tell you Elle, if we were to have a vintage/second-hand shop selling Dries van Noten (there are a few), the price would not be a song. There are little good second-hand shops in The Netherlands and the ones that are, know how much they can ask. No charity here.
Greetje
Can’t wait to see your ostrich embossed bag Greetje!
Well perhaps not a song, but it seems like a solid bargain for such beautiful boots even without the designer pedigrees! $65.00 USD ! So I sing! Lol !

Thanks for sharing this, Elle! I hope it gets cooler, I know how awful the heat is! Love the looks!
Raindrops of Sapphire
Thanks Lorna!
Yes it was cooler for two days, but warm today and lovely. I worry about the storms coming to the southern coasts! So I can’t complain!

I am so glad our heatwave has gone, as I’ve done my fair part of wilting. You’re looking amazing, and cool, in your wisp of an indigo summer dress, fiercely accessorized with that fabulous belt. And those Dries Van Noten booties! I’m swooning! But also a bit proud that he’s your favourite designer as he’s a fellow country man of mine! xxx
Well I am a sort of in love with your country.. and he is a truly exceptional designer! No more wilting !

Dear Elle, I always visit your blog for some fashion inspiration and beautiful and heartwarming English sentences too. I just love the way you write and the things you say. Both beautiful and positive. I love that combination. I haven’t read this blogpost as well as I normally do yours, because of one small sentence : “Earl grey tea and fresh ginger is pretty delicious!” I love both, never combined the two and are on my way of making myself a cup of tea…Keep cool dear! Love, Lieske
I am so glad to have made an impression, any, that enhanced your day! Enjoy the tea, it helps!

You have one of the cutest dresses I’ve seen today dear. Love that you styled it with the belt, such a chic look.
