As a health-conscious consumer who cares about beauty, and beauty products, I like to know what is in my creams and lipsticks. I know that the lotions are not magic, but I have seen some good results with many brands. I was glad to attend a party with Kitty Blincoe, hosted at my sister’s house, where I learned some illuminating and important information.
Kitty Blincoe was able to show me the wide array of beauty products from BEAUTYCOUNTER. I learned that BEAUTYCOUNTER’S mission is ” to get safe products into the hands of everyone.” I knew before I met with Kitty, that skincare products were not strictly regulated, but I did not know this very relevant fact:
Companies are allowed to use known toxins—ingredients that have been linked to cancer, reproductive issues, hormone disruption—without telling us.
Cancer rates are alarmingly high. Both my brother and my father died of cancer. My mother died of an autoimmune disease very similar to mine. So this is personal to me, and to you – I am sure. Did you know that one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in the US? We know so little about the causes of cancer and autoimmune disease, but avoiding known toxic carcinogens would be a great place to start. This is where BEAUTYCOUNTER excels. Kitty discusses these issues.
Serious health issues are on the rise in the US. Cancer, diabetes, asthma, infertility, and autoimmune diseases are gaining traction; even in a country that is relatively well-educated. Kitty tells us that more than 80,000 chemicals are on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. I will repeat that: Many chemicals on the market have NO safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skincare and beauty industry. Kitty explains:
Only about 10% of the 10,000 chemicals commonly found in personal care products have safety data.
What’s worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful (i.e. lead, formaldehyde, and phthalates) in the products we put on our bodies and onto the skin of our children. “Our skin is or largest organ” Kitty reminds us, and what we apply gets absorbed into our bloodstream. I personally think that we often do not make that connection, although we are careful with the food that we eat, and the air that we breathe.
I mean really, would we knowingly eat food that is harmful? Bologna please, on leaded rye? Salad, too, pleas, with vinegar and formaldehyde, but just a drizzle, on the side. We have a right to know what is in our food and in the products we ingest!
BEAUTYCOUNTER has banned more than 1,500 chemical ingredients in their products. That is a new and unrivaled health and safety standard. Did you know that The European Union has spent the past two decades banning or restricting more than 1,300 ingredients, while the US has only banned 11 to date? This puts the burden on we consumers to do some research, and to choose wisely. Know what is in your skincare and cosmetics! Some shots from the social:

I love the design of these compacts, and they are ergonomically correct, too!
Luxurious products that are safe. Beautiful packaging too. Every detail is well thought out.
My TWIN, keeping track of the orders. She hosted this amazing party!
My favorite products are the Radiance firming complex, the COUNTERTIME cleansing balm, and the Color Sweep Blush Duo with porcelain flower extract. This is not a sponsored post, all opinions are my own. But there will be a donation made for each purchase to the foundation of my autoimmune disease, Relapsing Polychondritis. For information about my rare disease and the foundation, click here.

Splendid Times!

I always try to stay away from toxins Elle but to tell you the truth it’s not that easy. I even read that some chemicals in nail polish make you gain weight. I checked out the site and it’s great. I wish they had worldwide shipping. It’s true you and your sis resemble each other very much. Have a happy weekend!

Wow I had no idea you had this, and yes you are right there is so much that goes in to our cosmetics, food and water. And those statistics are staggering. 1300 banned in Europe and only 11 in the US. Wow. This makeup looks and sounds great.
Allie of ALLIE NYCallienyc.com
Allie,I was pretty dumbfounded about this, especially US standards vis a vis other nations. The products are really nice and effective. One of the reasons I blog is to distract myself from my illness, it has worked a bit, and I am pretty ok… no worries. see you soon, I hope.xx, Elle
Awesome post! I’ve heard of Beauty Counter but didn’t get the concept… I will absolutely check it out now – thanks!
I am so glad, it is wonderful!xx, Elle
A very informative post, Elle. I hadn’t heard of Beautycounter. But then again, I don’t wear much makeup. Like you, I’m very cautious about what I put on my skin. I stick with organic products usually purchased from the whole foods/organic grocers. I never really got into cosmetics. I enjoyed the video too. It’s always fun to hear other bloggers voices 🙂
It is such a travesty to learn of the ingredients allowed in products. Sickening for sure. It doesn’t make any sense.
I am glad you liked it and learned about the topic. It is a travesty- good word. i do not use much make up either, but I do use cleansers, lotions and concealer… So far I love these products!Yes, i know I was thrilled to hear your vice, when I catch you on Periscope!xx, Elle
