IT IS TIME TO SHARE WARDROBE EDITING TIPS. AS WE TRANSITION TO SPRING, WE NEED TO CULL AND EVALUATE WHAT TO KEEP FOR NEXT YEAR AND BEYOND.
SHARING A RECENT LOOK FROM #NYFW. IT IS A TYPICAL MASH OF QUALITY CLOTHING ITEMS, WORN WITH WHAT I HOPE IS “ARTFUL ABANDON”. IT IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF WHAT TO KEEP IN OUR CLOSETS AND WHY.
Shown here, this #OOTD took appears so different indoors, and without my camel coat.
Featured below is a closer look what I wore: the Zara faux fur scarf, CHANEL tweed jacket, Prada tweed skirt, The Mark Cross Grace bag , a geometric printed silk blouse, and a chain link belt to keep it all together! All of these pieces are older, with the newest piece the Zara faux scarf from 2 years ago. Wardrobe editing tips are an easy share, as I tend to choose carefully with longevity in mind. All times were bought up cycled.
Keep in mind what looks good on you. A good edit honors that first and foremost.
Consider what is versatile. This Chanel jacket may not seem like a go-to item at first glance, but think about how it would look with distressed denim, a tulle skirt, skinny jeans in bold colors, or leather leggings. As you can imagine it can be worn in a happy multitude of ways; giving this investment piece a prominent place in your rotation!
A second rule for the wardrobe edit: If you do not LOVE it, consider giving it to a friend.
Another alternative is to sell what you don’t love on eBay, or donating it to a good cause. Keeping our closets full of what we love and know we will wear, simplifies our life and makes getting dressed much more satisfying.

RIGHT NOW WE ARE IN A CROSSROADS OF THE MATCHY MATCHY TREND COMING UP, AND THE ECLECTIC MISMATCH OF SEPARATES FOR A MORE ECLECTIC LOOK BEING A DOMINANT TREND. THE LATTER IS DONE BY COUTURE NOTABLES AS KARL LAGERFELD, GUCCI AND MIU MIU. STYLE GUIDES ARE JUST THAT: BUY WHAT SPEAKS TO YOU AND HOLD ON TO IT. DO NOT LET FAST FASHION TRENDS MAKE YOU FEEL INSECURE.
More tips for wardrobe editing and styling can be gleaned from the items below. Look at each photo and consider how it would look dressed up or pared down. I tried to include a wide array of price points here.
Clockwise from top to bottom is the Chanel Runway Tweed jacket , Kate Spade Delphina Tweed skirt sold out but similar by same brand, pearl embellished boucle skirt– this one is a bit trendy- but is adorable-, Missguided plaid jacket, fringed boucle jacket as pictured is sold out but this Lagerfeld jacket is a beauty. The last item is a classic knit skirt by Gucci .Pair it with a denim jacket for a causal look, or a complimenting tweed or moto jacket.
Alert! THIS fabulous faux fur scarf is on sale. I know many of are chasing spring trends, but now is the time to buy clothes for next fall. Check out this beauty from Urban Outfitters . It is on sale for &19.99! The printed pants are fabulous too!
Spring is on its way -any minute now, so says the calendar! Now, however, is the time for a thoughtful wardrobe edit, and also a great time to score new clothes for next winter at deep discounts.

I’m with you on so much of this – I try to keep only quality items that I really LOVE, and I cull things that don’t make the cut anymore. My friends happily get my cast-offs, and I donate the rest. I love this eclectic look on you, Elle – so elegant!
I know you are, and I think this simple shopping philosophy is good for us and good for our friends and people who do not have access to clothing that we do . Thank you for your kind words friend !

That’s what my mom and Nancy and I do….we will try to give it to each other if it’s not right for us.
You always have the best pieces, Elle!!

Such beautiful styling! So happy I found your blog via Patti’s link up! I totally agree, some of those favorite pieces are meant to be kept! When I edit my closet, the pieces that go are usually trend pieces or items that or worn out or no longer suit or fit me. These are all classics!

I am also very glad that you found me. Of course we buy things that are trending, but sometimes there are classic pieces that have some trendy elements that will last a long time.

I just sorted out my closets this weekend. I am bringing it to a store were people who don t have much money can choose the clothes they want.
Isn’t it such a chore! But it is a good feeling when everything is organized. And it is a wonderful thing to contribute to others .
❤️ Elle
Love the colour and texture mix here.
I *really* need to edit some of my wardrobe. I was so lazy last year I didn’t even bother switching over my stored summer dresses to winter.
Suzanne
Thank you so much, this was fun to assemble. If you have enough closet space there is no reason to switch things out. I’m sure you are well organized. Have a great week .

Dear Elle, you look always so gorgeous! I loved the tweed short or 3/4 sleeved “coat”. The shirt and bag are also amazing! You are so right, if there’s something we don’t love, why would we keep it? By love I mean the style and also sentimental reasons, of course. I hope you have a fabulous week!

Yes if we don’t love it, it really should belong to someone else. Thank you for your sweet comment .

Your faux fur scarf is easily one of the most fab and fun I’ve seen dear. Loving the playful and happy colors, looks pretty gorgeous with your coat too dear.

Elle, yes, I have the plan to clean my closet in the next weeks 🙂 Therefore, your tips are highly welcomed and I’ll definitely keep them into my mind! Your closet is a true dream and the outfit you wore for FW is another proof for this. Every single piece is so versatile and timeless and I’m very relieved to read that you’ll keep this pieces! Yes transitioning a wardrobe is the task, but it feels great to be organized. I’m sure you do this regularly because you are always on point !!

Useful advice! I really like this outfit. The jacket is really unique and it can be a base in different styles. Perfectly!
Yes, it is so versatile l thank you for your kind words.

I have to clean out my closets all the time. Otherwise nothing fits in it anymore and I keep buying (bad girl). Chanel (type) jackets are horrible on an inverted triangle shape like my body. As are jumpsuits (which I love but stay well cleared of).
You look (again) very eclectic. My favourite pieces (which might strike you as oddd) are your boots and the bag. But that is because I can relate that to what I can wear haha.
Greetje
Oh yes I know that you can relate to handbags and boots. LOL. I actually think you can wear a longer Chanel jacket and that we would be fabulous on you. Of course it doesn’t have to be Chanel, I think Max Mara or any other quality brand that is well tailored would be perfect for you. You always wear beautiful blazers and the look is exquisite on you with your skinny jeans !

I love it! such aa cool post!

A good rule for me is: When and how often did I wear it? That way giving away clothes becomes so much easier. I tend to keep pieces for years and years (and I tend to buy a few items I hardly wear each year too I’m afraid). I love how you encourage us to give clothes we do not want in our own wardrobe anymore a second life elsewhere. That’s what I strive at too. Love, Lieske
For sure this is not a perfect process. It’s just good that we are conscientious and use what we have, and enjoy what we have. It’s also wonderful to give things away to people who want them !
❤️ Elle
It’s like a Matryoshka or nesting-doll outfit, each layer is equally interesting. I love how you’ve done that! And I love how you have mixed your classic pieces. I have pieces that aren’t classics or high quality, and I still love them. That said, I have trouble culling my clothes. My moods/tastes are so variable. It would be easier if I could stick to one style. I have before, but not for more than a few weeks at a time. And of course now I want that scarf too! Hahaha.
I clean my closet out regularly (only a few things seem to sneak back in when I’m not looking!).
Love these tips for ‘editing’ and that faux fur scarf is a great buy for the Autumn!

Loving all the rich textures and details on this look. It is unique and has a ton of character-
I hold on to things for a long time because I do think that even if I do not wear something in years it does not mean it will not come in handy, specially classics.
