Classic Autumn fashion should feel like biting into a clove spiced pumpkin pie. Autumnal hues can mirror the colors of turning leaves . As we think of a new season we can be self reflective. My stance below is both literally and figuratively this: Look Up. Find the light in the shadows .
Can we think about how we want to project ourselves? Lets radiate warmth and kindness.
With fashion there is nothing new under the sun.
What goes around comes around. To whit, these trousers are 24 years. Guess what, high-waisted trousers are back in style, tweed is cool , and leopard is on point. Around and around it goes!
What is new is this world we live in. Tensions run high. We are both divided and invested in these divisions. But, please hear me, we have more in common than not. Look for the light in the shadows . It is there and it can unite.
So I segue back to fashion, which is just outward manifestations of how we want to either stand out or fit in. Which motivates you more? Is your classic autumn fashion more of a jeans and sweater style? Mine, too, some days.
In the interest of keeping clothes out of the landfill, I buy with intention and creativity. My coat is a bit pricey, as it is Gucci, but it was from the children’s department of Bergdorf Goodman and will be a treasure forever. My trousers are Armani, and were bought second hand when my son was in first grade. He is now finishing up his PHD. You do the math, lol !
My earrings are from my mother in law, a wedding gift 34 years ago. Encircling my neck, the gold Oscar de la Renta necklace is 15 years old, the pearls about 20 years old, and the emeralds will go one day to my daughter. They are hers whenever she wants them.
Cashmere is comfortable and lasts for generations, if cared for properly. This one in smoky paprika is a keeper. It has been hot here, therefore the short sleeves! The trousers are fine wool and silk. They breathe well!
Certainly it is challenging to channel classic autumn fashion when it is beach weather!

I’m a big fan of autumnal hues, in nature as well as in fashion, and your outfit is pushing all the right buttons for me. Love those high-waisted trousers, and the colour of your top is simply divine. So is your coat, it looks so luxurious and comfy. You really do radiate warmth in every way, Elle! xxx

Wow! The age of the clothing! A tweed trousers, fabulous. I love tweed but it is very hard to find good quality for a good price. It’s hard to find something tweed at all. You look fabulous!
I forget the the ample shopping here is a rare thing!
You nail autumn style so well with your wonderful layering, even if the weather is not yet cooperating with what you want to wear, haha! 🙂 Love how you have layered the necklaces and those pants were such a good investment!
Hope that your weekend is off to a nice start! It’s a rainy day here but we have a birthday party to go to so it will be fun 🙂

What a lovely look for fall. And a Gucci coat from the children’s department, genious! And 34 years, wow. I do not have ANY article of clothing or jewelry for 34 years. Impressive.
Yes, I was lucky with the coat! I only have a few things from that time, but lots of jewelry from then! Since i was engaged and married 34 years ago..
Hope you are enjoying fall so far!
Love the ensemble very chic
Thanks so much sweet friend!
I love how you introduce 24 yr old trousers as if you just bought them , a classic look that looks so fresh with the paprika Gucci -brilliant in the kids dept- & mixed with the Leo, is perfect . You do inspire be to look up at the warmth beautiful Elle , cheers ☀️
Yes, lol, so true dear Leila !
I was very lucky with that Gucci coat!
Very classy outfit, dear Elle, head to toe! I can’t believe you wear the trousers from 24 years back – mine would not fit me at all! I really love the necklaces against the cashmere top and the color of your coat (didn’t see the coat on you, I’m sure it is gorgeous). But above all, your beautiful words! I agree with you, there is so much more in common, and ultimately we all are looking for happiness and light.
Warmest hugs and lots of love!
Thank you so much Natalia!
Yes, i am lucky to be the same size for many decades. For health reasons I have always been careful with my diet.
Yes, many people I speak to here in the city feel the same way. But boy, oh boy, life is challenging these days !
