Today I am wearing my favorite
patterned coat.
In fact, in this post you will see it styled twice.
As always, my outfit is pattern rich and full of textures. I love the coincidence of the racing stripe sweater with the car behind me. The sweater is by Marc Jacobs and was bought at Encore on Madison Avenue . Vroom!
Below, a shot of the
patterned coat
in a head-to-toe shot.
The way I layered this outfit was perfect for the brisk winter day. My brown tights are so thick they look black. My CHANEL bag is vintage now. I love the tortoise detail. I will always be a camel and tortoise fan. You know what they say about the Tortoise and the Hare; Aesop got that one right.
My second favorite patterned coat is from Etro. I am such a fan of this designer. I will show it in a post soon to refresh your memory.
I wore this patterned coat again when I meet Allie for lunch at the Kimberly hotel. We met at this destination last year. You can read about that great day here. I love this beautiful hotel, it is modern and chic, and their restaurant is truly excellent. I also love the mesmerizing fish tank in the lobby.
Hello, yellow fish!
I love your patterned coat!
The irridescenct stripe and spot of pink is poetry! Only nature could render it.
When I went to meet Allie, I changed my outfit a bit. I wore a simple turtleneck and a red fur vest, that I bought from a small and local shop. The look is altered dramatically with the vest. A snap of the red faux-fur vest, over the beige patterned coat below.
The playful patchwork of windows behind me was an excellent backdrop, so I stopped a stranger and asked him to take this snap.
I know, I know. “Who does that In New York?” you ask with exacerbation!
I arrive early. This is typical of me. I am happy to read some blogs while I wait.
I got a snap of a gorgeous vase at the Kimberly hotel also. Do you remember the post I did featuring Sam in the Kimberly Hotel? She is so beautiful that after I posted it on Instagram, they asked permission to use it on their website! Below, the vase, artfully recessed in the dining area.
I have attached a small gallery of patterned coats that you might like, if you are in the mood to browse or shop. From Matches Fashion, an artful masterpiece. Anna Rachele does a fun rendition here. It is a bolder, more graphic look, and packs a punch. If you are looking for a rich, Italian-made patterned coat, I would suggest the third option.
What is your favorite coat to wear? I personally love cloth coats, but often find wearing a down parka more practical. But lately my cloth coats have been favored.
I hope you have a wonderful week ahead, and as always I thank you for reading!
I absolutely love that you layered a vest over your coat, Elle!!
You are so creative and have such an eye for style!!

As always, great pattern and color mixing. I loved the red stripe on the car as your backdrop, too – genius! That plus the patterned coat made me think of those gucci sneakers with the patterned background and the red and green stripe…

Fantastic coat! I always wear my coats without a pattern, but I might have to change that now!
Thanks so much Nancy,
By now I suppose you have to realized that I love coats in any variety! Have a great week ahead!

I love the pictures, dear Elle, and the coincidence with the car, yes, so interesting! Loved the vintage Chanel bag, your coat and vest, and shoes! The Kimberly hotel is amazing, I do remember the photos, and so nice that you met Allie! Such a great vase! So nice that you were asked permission for an Instagram picture! i will also chime in that the racing car behind you really fit the picture well. love your coat, so classic looking and stylish. Being in NC, I don’t need a ton of coats, but i do enjoy wearing them… my favorite being my pink vintage looking Boden coat i bought a couple of years ago. i love the red fur vest and how creative to wear it over your printed coat. Beautiful style my friend.
have a wonderful week!

Vroom indeed! Your combinations make me happy, just as the yellow fish does! Love the fur coat over your beautiful pattern coat! The colorful windows are wonderful, so glad that you took that photo (and you look sooo beautiful!). I would probably choose the red/black pattern coat, but all your picks are exquisite!
Lots of love!
Yes I can definitely see you in the red and black coat. I was very pleased that that stranger took that pictures because I also liked that background. I am very glad you like my coat. Stay warm and have a wonderful week ahead!

That’s one gorgeous patterned coat, Elle! I love the red vest over it too, and the coats in your slide show are divine. Thanks for linking up, xo

What a beautiful patterned coat! I love my cloth coats but have been grabbing my heavy parka lately with all of the cold!
Brooke

Thanks so much Brooke!
I can certainly understand grabbing a parka. We have had such a miserable and cold winter. But spring is on its way. Have a great week ahead.

That is a fabulous coat, and I love it with the red furry vest over it. I can’t wait to see your Etro coat – I have 2 Etro pieces (both second-hand), and L has a pair of pants from their shop in Florence, plus a shirt that I found in a consignment shop. Great quality items!
I love Etro and I’m pleased that we both have some beautiful pieces from that designer. I am very glad you like this coat. I have also scored some great Etro pieces at the consignment stores! Yay us!
❤️
Elle
I am now in doubt whether this coat is Etro as well. Anyway,it is a lovely coat and you wear it well. The red faux fur vest is fun. Never would have thought of wearing them together.
Greetje
Dear Greetje,
No this code is not Etro. The brand is Tocca And I believe they no longer make clothing but are in th and I believe they no longer make clothing . I like layering a vest over a coat because that way I have two light pieces, and it keeps me warm. And I also have the vest on hand in case it’s cold inside of the restaurant, or where ever it is that I am going to.

Hey Elle. Since I cycle to school I often opt for practical anoraks. Not as beautiful as your coat, but hey, a girl needs to make certain choices, right?! I absolutely love wearing beautiful coats on my days off though and the one you show here is soooooo beautiful and playful in one. You even add to the playfulness with adding that vest. Very daring and totally out of my comfort zone and such a brilliant combination. Love, Lieske
Thanks dear Lieske!
Yes it would be very difficult to bike to work in a long cloth coat. I am not surprised that you are also a fan of long and elegant coat. Yes I did combine two elements in a way that is seldom done. But I like to create new looks. And for me it is a good way to stay warm.
❤️ Elle
What an absolutely gorgeous coat! I love the way you have styled it two different ways! Without and with the vest! Makes such a layering piece! I can’t have enough coats! They really make an outfit looks so chic!

Yes, the power of a good coat ! I’m so glad that you liked this post.

Your coat is beautiful, worn both ways! 🙂 I really want to add more patterned coats to my wardrobe, it’s a definite gap I have! Hopefully I will see some nice ones this winter when it arrives.
Hope you’re having a good start to your week. I’m busy, but not as much as last week, so that’s nice! 🙂
Away From The Blue Blog
I am so glad that you are not as busy. I hope you are finding some time to relax. I’m sure you’ll find some beautiful coats, come winter time. Sending hugs .

Dear Elle, I do agree! Etro is simply fantastic and so is your adorable coat! I really understand that you love this coat so much as it looks like made for you and that coat is perfect in each detail. And it makes me smile that you also read blogs when you wait – I’m doing absolutely the same 🙂 Happy Wednesday!

You always have the best coats. I need to break out of the mold and get more patterned and colorful coats. Anything but black. Have three of those do not need any more.

Ah, but the quintessential New York look requires a black coat. LOL. And there is nothing more elegant and easy to wear. I’m sure when you have time you will find a wonderful patterned coat. You have such great style!
